Three must haves for your landscape photography

Image
Do you have the right tools to photograph awesome landscapes? Many aspiring photographers tend to go for the "best" equipments without knowing why they need such high quality tools. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this idea. I't absolutely cool to spend thousands of dollars on cameras and lenses. However, You're not really spending on what you really need for an awesome photography which are usually fraction of the price of most lenses.  If you are standing in front of a stunning landscape, you honestly only need a camera and the kit lens - your thousands dollar lenses are only extra. What you really need for a stunning landscape photo are a tripod, remote shutter release and filters.  If you're just starting off, save your money on the expensive lenses and invest on the above items. You'll only spend a fraction and also be able to take your family on a nice dinner.  Choose the Right Tripod There are so many options to choose from when i

How to photograph during the Golden Hour

Image
The Golden hour, also known as the magic hour is the time right after sunset right before you see complete darkness. The sky turns into a mix of red and dark blue which is absolutely magical. However this magic hour is very short you need to be prepared with your equipment and the location picked out beforehand.  Basic Set-up Having a tripod is important but not a must. However, you might end up with a shaky image as you have less light coming in. You want to have the best possible outcome, have a tripod set up. If not, you can prevent shakes by putting your camera on your bag or a rock.  Camera Setting At this hour, you want to capture in your image as much landscape or the sunset as possible. With that being said, you want the focus to be spread even on the image. Set your F stop around 10 or even higher to let enough light to come in but also show as much as possible at the same time.  Here's an advanced tip. Many of you may use this already and I don't th

How to photograph moving subject with panning

Image
Panning is a technique you use when photographing moving subjects. While holding down to your shutter half way, you pan along with your subject at the same speed and go full shutter . This will in result, give you a photo that looks something like this below. Getting a great panning shot is not something you will master in one go - it takes practice. But the most important things are using the right shutter speed and panning at the right speed with your subject. This way you will be able to capture action packed images. Find a perfect spot First you'd need to find a location where you see a lot of traffic. I mean, any kind of traffic whether there is a lot of cars, people, animal or even sporting event. Like I mentioned earlier, it will be difficult to get a nice shot in one go, especially if you're a beginner. So make sure there are a lot of things around you moving around. And of course find a safe location. Set up your tripod and swivel your camera left and right. See h

5 tips on how to take awesome Silhouette Shots

Image
Silhouette photography is a great way to add a hint of creativity to improve your somewhat bold images. You don't see the person's facial expression nor do you see the texture of the object. However, the message and emotion they can transmit can be very unique.  Always Shoot in Manual Mode Before we begin, let's start with a basic setting. Make sure your camera is in a manual mode by dialing to "M" on your camera. If you try to capture silhouette on an automatic mode, it simply doesn't work so well. It's because your camera automatically calculates how much light comes in to your frame and will dull your bright sky and brighten up your subjects. Also, it will flash automatically making the object even brighter.  Basic Settings Make sure your ISO is set to 100 unless you want more grain in your image with higher ISOs. But the point here is to make you image as dark as you can and want to have sharp image without any grains.  When it comes to

5 tips on how to take awesome reflection photos

Image
You just bought a camera and started off as a "photographer" but all your photos look a little bold. I understand we've all been there. When I started my journey as photographer I had no idea how to take nice photos. I just bought a camera and started taking random photos. I don't consider myself as a professional-level photographer but I've taken enough photos to share a thing or two with you. One of the easy way to get rid of that boring look of your images is the use of reflections. It's a way you make your images more unique and send out more complex emotions. So on your next photo journey look for reflection points such as rivers, lakes or even a puddle. Also, keep in mind that you don't only get reflection from water but also from glass, hood of a car, window, your friends sunglasses and more. Be creative. Your options are endless. Use Wide-Angle Lens It is important that you use wide angle lens to give the image more depth. Reflection photos ge
